Our Story

Proud to be a local, woman-owned shop for 45 years

Lazy Daisy Ceramics was founded and opened in 1977 by Novella Mawyer who had a desire to bring ceramic arts to the Charlottesville community. She was a talented artist who loved painting, ceramics, teaching, and meeting new people. Her first store was in a small shop on Ivy Road and in 1982 she moved to the current location on Monticello Road, now run by her daughter Tara who started working at Lazy Daisy in 1998 and helped her mom create the painting studio it is today.

Lazy Daisy Ceramics has always been a family operated small business from past to present. Up until 2010,  Novella's husband Sonny poured molds, fired the molded pieces, and kept the shelves full. Todd, her oldest son, worked in the store in the 90s bringing his exuberant energy to the floor. Travis, her youngest son, currently keeps the grounds looking beautiful.

We are proud to celebrate 45 years of business in beautiful downtown Charlottesville, Virginia. Please come by and experience our ceramic studio. We carry glazes, underglazes, low fire slip and clay, paragon kilns, brushes, underglaze transfers, bisque and so much more!
