Frequently Asked Questions
-
When are you open? Our studio is open for painting Tuesday - Saturday from 12 - 5. We are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Please allow at least 1 - 1.5 hours to paint your piece by arriving no later than 4 pm.
-
Do I need a reservation? No, we don’t take reservations of any kind. Walk ins are all we do.
-
How much does it cost?Studio fee is $12 adults (13 and up), $10 for kids 5 - 12, and $7 for kids 4 and under. The studio fee covers: paint, clear glaze finish, and firing. Pottery is purchased separately and range from $1.50-$45 per piece.
-
How long does it take to paint in the studio? Most customers take at least 1 - 1.5 hours to paint one piece depending on how big or intricate the piece is. Please plan ample time to paint by arriving no later than 4 pm.
-
What forms of payment do you accept? We accept all major credit cards, checks, cash, and Apple Pay.
-
How long until I can pick up my finished piece? Our turnaround time is usually 8-12 days, depending on how busy we’ve been. Once you finish painting, we'll apply a clear glaze which seals your pottery making it food, dishwasher, and microwave safe. Then we'll queue you up for the kiln. During peak times, it may take a few extra days. We know how exciting it is to see your finished piece and we always appreciate our customer's patience! We'll text or email when your piece is ready for pickup.
-
What ages are appropriate for the studio? We recommend pottery painting for ages 4 and up. All ages are welcome in our studio, however, we highly recommend our paint-at-home pottery option for ages 3 and under. Our experience is that toddlers typically last for 15 minutes and at-home painting is a great option for our youngest customers. As a rule of thumb, if your child can sit and focus on painting for one hour, they are ready for in-studio painting.
-
I don't live in Charlottesville, can my finished pottery be shipped?Yes, absolutely! We ship with USPS based on weight and size of the box. Shipping usually costs between $12 and $25. Once we've calculated the final shipping cost, we'll send an invoice through Venmo.
-
How many can be in my group to paint? Most of our tables accommodate groups of 2 to 4 and we have three large tables for groups of 6 to 8. If your group has more than 8 people, we strongly recommend coming on a weekday (Tuesday - Friday). Saturday is the busiest day and during peak months is typically full all day. If you have a large group and want to come on a Saturday, we recommend coming at 12 when we open. Tables are first come-first serve. Painting can take anywhere from 1.5 - 4 hours to complete. We don’t host large events, 25 or more, in the studio. For large events, please come in and purchase pottery and paints to take to your event.
-
Can I bring food and drink into the studio?Drinks are allowed. Food is not. No alcoholic beverages please.
-
Do you offer classes? Or kids birthday parties? We'll post classes to our Facebook, Instagram, and this website. We no longer offer kids birthday parties.
-
How does paint-at-home pottery work?Painting at home and on your time is great for those with busy schedules or toddlers. Rather than pay the in-studio fee, you'll purchase both the paint (2 oz bottles) and pottery of your choice. Then when you are ready, bring the piece back and we'll clear glaze and fire it, for additional fee.
-
How long will you hold my finished piece for pick up?We typically hold pieces for up to 6 months, sometimes longer. We will try to contact you several times to remind you to pick up during this time. If your piece has been left after the 6 month cut off with no correspondence from you, it will be donated to charity.
